## We Put It to Work: Seeing 4o in Action
To see how 4o performs in real-world scenarios, our Studio Manager - Web Dev & Production, **Fabian Miranda**, took it for a test drive on a series of creative challenges. In each case, he started with a vision (or an input image) and refined the output through natural chat prompts. Thanks to GPT-4o’s multi-turn generation, it was easy to iteratively adjust details until we got the ideal result​. 
 
 Here’s how Fabian said it held up:

- **From Raw Sketch to Fully Cooked Kitchen** 

I started with just a rough pencil sketch of a kitchen layout. Eleven prompts later, I had a gorgeous, photorealistic 3D render — complete with material finishes, accurate lighting, and layout fidelity. It felt like magic to see my crude sketch bloom into a photorealistic kitchen right before my eyes, nailing every detail of color, texture, and spatial layout I had imagined.

- **Footware Photoshoot — Minus the Set**

I wanted to visualize a product in context: a pair of basketball shoes showcased against a custom background. I described a dusk-lit basketball court scene and GPT-4o dropped them right in. In fewer than 10 iterations, it matched shadows, reflections, and lighting to the environment while keeping the product design perfectly intact. You’d never know it wasn’t from a real Nike photoshoot.

- **From Drab to Fab Custom Apparel Design** 

To push the model’s precision, I tried applying a custom pattern to an item of clothing. I uploaded a flat sweater and the pattern I wanted, then asked GPT-4o to mount the design across different angles. The AI rendered each angle with startling accuracy: the pattern wrapped naturally around the fabric, handling folds, scale, and seam alignment with studio-quality precision.

- **It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's our Brand's New Mascot** 

Now, for a more creative branding challenge. I created two brand mascots for our company, Assemble, reflecting both our team culture and our Costa Rican identity: Euglossa (bee) and a hummingbird. Impressively, the model kept the mascots recognizable and consistent in each iteration, even as we posed them differently or placed them in new scenarios.

The result was two lovable mascot images that looked cohesive and on-brand. It was astonishing to have AI not only ideate with me, but also execute the visuals with such continuity.

- **Fabian Becomes a Cartoon**

This one was really fun. I uploaded a photo of my girlfriend and me from a trip to Napoli and asked 4o to reimagine it in various animation styles — Pixar, anime, The Simpsons. Each version fully embraced the visual style, while still very clearly looking like us! 

The cartoon version gave us the big doe eyes and soft shading of a Pixar character; the anime version introduced bold lines and dramatic lighting; the Simpsons version flattened the perspective and gave us that classic yellow-toned skin and 2D look – instantly recognizable. This really showed off 4o’s stylistic range and how it can apply it to real people.

- **A Blast to the Past (at Machu Picchu)**

Last but certainly, not least. I wanted to test 4o’s imagination and historical understanding. Using a tourist photo of Machu Picchu, I asked GPT-4o to reimagine the scene as it might have looked in the 15th century, at the peak of the Inca Empire. The model had to essentially “undo” the ruins – rebuilding the stone structures to their original form, populating the scene with people in period attire, and altering the surroundings to look freshly built and vibrant. 

The result was nothing short of breathtaking. The colors were richer (no weathering from centuries of decay) and there was a thin mist as if it were dawn on a sacred morning. What amazed me was how accurate and informed the creative reconstruction appeared; it was as if the AI drew on an internal encyclopedia of Inca history and architecture to ground its imagination. This test underscored GPT-4o’s ability to blend factual knowledge with creative visualization, producing an image that tells a “what if” story with remarkable realism.

Each of these experiments left me both excited — and kind of stunned. The fact that I – who has no 3D modeling or digital art skills whatsoever – could achieve these results simply by conversing with an AI is a testament to how transformative 4o is. The impact of this evolution is making the process of creation accessible to anyone who can describe what they want. 

## Why It Really Matters for Creative Teams

We are living through a revolutionary moment in creative technology. This launch is much more than a novelty — it’s a shift in how we work. Tools like GPT-4o challenge us as designers, developers, content creators, and leaders to rethink how we approach creative processes. When AI can generate almost any image you can think of and do it in a collaborative, conversational way, it opens up possibilities that were basically a thing of science fiction just a couple of years ago. 

The high-level benefits:

- Higher fidelity visuals earlier in the process

- Less back-and-forth — both between departments AND tools — streamlining the entire creative flow

- More time for big ideas and strategic execution (aka more of the fun stuff)

## Our POV: Ride the Wave of Innovation or Sink 

The speed of iteration, the fidelity of the outcomes, and the sheer variety of things you can create make GPT-4o feel like a creative superpower. But what this also means the creative landscape is shifting under our feet. Digital marketers and creative professionals must adapt by learning all new workflows to stay relevant. No, 4o isn’t going to replace human creativity — it augments it. BUT only if you’re willing to fully embrace the tool in the right ways.

ChatGPT-4o Launch

Wooah. Image Generation just Entered the Chat: See ChatGPT-4o’s New Skills

The entire WordPress community has been shaken by the crazy drama between WordPress cofounder and Automattic CEO, Matt Mullenweg, and WP Engine, which hosts websites built on WordPress. The heated controversy has people sweating that they could be next to lose access to one of the most popular technologies for creating and hosting sites in the world. 

So what’s really going on? We’re laying out all the details, so you can stay in the loop (or pick a side if you want) and know what to expect moving forward. 

## Meet the Contenders 

As most of you know, WordPress is open source and free, powering a huge portion of the internet — 40% of websites to be more accurate. 

WP Engine, on the other hand, is a third-party hosting company that uses WordPress software to create and sell its own prepackaged WordPress hosting service. Since launching in 2010, it has grown to be a significant rival of WordPress.com, with more than 200,000 websites being powered through its service. 

Now, there are technically two different WordPresses: WordPress.org and WordPress.com. The .org is an open-source project that is the backbone of the WordPress publishing platform, while .com is a company that sells the hosted version of the open-source WordPress software, just like WP Engine. It’s owned by Automattic, which is owned by Mullenweg. Not only does it sell plans on the site, but it also contributes tremendously to the development effort of .org, which relies heavily on donations and community contributions to run. 

WP Engine runs a bit differently, investing in the community through sponsorships and encouragement for the adoption of the platform. In 2018, it was acquired by a PE firm, Silver Lake. 

## The Backstory 

So here’s where the turmoil comes in. Mullenweg views WP Engine as a business that profits off the open-source code without giving anything back — a precedent he had set for all major profiters when the company first launched. 

At WordCamp this fall, he took a direct shot at WP Engine by saying, “The company is controlled by Silver Lake, a private equity firm with $102 million in assets under management. Silver Lake doesn’t give a dang about your open source ideals — it just wants return on capital. So, it’s at this point I ask everyone in the WordPress community to go vote with your wallet. Who are you going to give your money to: someone who is going to nourish the ecosystem or someone who is going to frack every bit of value out of it until it withers?”

He continued with another statement in a blog post, criticizing the company for only contributing 40 hours per week to WordPress.org, and commenting, ““WP Engine is setting a poor standard that others may look at and think is ok to replicate. We must set a higher standard to ensure WordPress is here for the next 100 years.” And that it’s “giving users a ‘crappier experience so they can make more money.’”

Even further, Mullenweg says that WP Engine is profiting off of the confusion of the company’s branding by using the “WP” name. As a result, they’re promising the experience of WordPress, but aren’t delivering. As a result, “WP Engine will need a commercial license for the ‘unauthorized’ use of the WordPress trademark, which is controlled by the WordPress Foundation.”

Oof. 

## The Current Situation 

So as you can imagine, WP Engine had to respond. Technically, the company is abiding by the open-source license’s rules. They don’t have to contribute anything by requirement. 

The conflict has recently escalated with an array of legal threats, as WP Engine sent a cease-and-desist letter to Mullenweg and Automattic, asking them to withdraw their comments, and defending itself with the assurance that the WordPress trademark is covered under fair use. From their perspective, Mullenweg is taking a “scorched earth nuclear approach,” unless it agrees to pay up. 

In proper tit for tat fashion, the WordPress Foundation sent its own cease-and-desist letter, claiming WP Engine breached WordPress and WooCommerce trademark usage rules. They also changed their Trademark Policy Page, calling WP Engine out. 

WP Engine feels that demanding over tens of millions to his for-profit company (Automattic), while masquerading as a protector of the WordPress community isn’t cool — at all. And they refuse to accede to the demands.  

## The Impact 

With Mullenweg has banned WP Engine from accessing the resources of WordPress.org, elements like plug-ins and themes are no longer usable by WP Engine. Without these important updates, which in turn has broken a lot of websites and left them vulnerable to security attacks. But the block was only temporary — at first. He gave WP Engine until October 1st to create their own solution or resolve the conflict. 

And on that day exactly, WP Engine took to X to report that they have fully deployed their own solution and regular workflow practices have been restored to their global customers.  

But what about everyone else? 

## The Two Sides 

So you have users who are 100% in WordPress’ corner, in full agreement that WPEngine wasn’t pulling their weight in terms of the platform’s contract.

The other side is a little more neutral. Sure, they agree that everyone needs to contribute their share. But they also can’t totally get on board with the way WordPress responded. Hijacking its technology from an external team of developers seems a little extreme to them. That even includes 159 Automattic employees (80% of which are in Automattic’s Ecosystem / WordPress division), who went packing, opting for their severance packages over compliance with the company’s actions. 

Even David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of Ruby on the Rails chimed in, saying that “Automattic is completely out of line,  and the potential damage to the open source world extends far beyond WordPress.”

When a client came to us a couple of weeks ago wanting to revamp their website, we were pumped. We love a good website build. And in this case, they had already gotten a head start. Well… at least they thought. 

See, they chose to start building their site with Webflow. Like many other marketers (over 200,000 in 190 countries to be more exact), they were drawn to the simplicity that the platform has to offer, making it easy for less tech-savvy teams to build and manage a cool looking site.

But it didn’t take long for them to realize, that was just about all it really could offer. As soon as we started chatting, we got to chatting about their long-term goals and even those not so far down the road. And it was enough to sway them to a whole new technology all together. 

Why? The answer to that is best described through a helpful pros and cons list. So we’re diving into why Webflow may or may not be the best option for your next site project.

## What is Webflow? 

The no-code website building platform works on a “fremium” SaaS model, providing drag and drop templates similar to platforms like Wix, but with a lot more features and personalization. You can use it to design AND host your website, or take the site’s code from there and host it on your own server. While it offers a large selection of customization options, it still has its limitations. 

Despite this, Webflow has seen a significant increase in popularity over the last 3 years. With over 3.5 million designers and teams on the platform, Webflow has become the 19th most popular CMS in the world. From 2020 to 2022, its customer base doubled from 100,000 to 200,000.  In 2021, it built 480,000 websites and another 450,000 new Webflow sites were created in 2022. 

All along the way, they have made several updates and improvements to its staging and publishing workflows, designer and editor performance, variable font updates, and more.  

## Webflow Upsides 

- **No-code.** As a true no-code platform, page layout, stylings, visuals, and all updates can be implemented without knowledge of underlying tech or coding. 

- **Professionally crafted templates.** Over 1,000 templates cater to a wide range of business needs and expressions. 

- **Clean interface.** With Webflow, there’s no guessing as to what your updates and changes on the backend will look like on the front end. You can see the effects in real-time since they’re made directly in a rendition of the page itself. 

- **Integrations.** With a wide range of pre-built integrations to other applications and tools, you can hook up all your tools and tech to ensure a more streamlined process for creating custom forms and tables, executing customer relationships, downloading photos, and more. 

- **Built-in SEO.** From support for WedP images, which have smaller file sizes for faster loading to easy-to-use SEO boosting features like meta and title specifications on each page to the ability to generate and modify the sitemap page and robots.txt, Webflow understands the importance of search engine optimization in a website build.
 
- **Coding option.** Despite not requiring any coding expertise, you can edit CSS of your Webflow site, and add HTML or Javascript to it for extra customization. 

- **Security.** Unlike the website design processes of the past, Webflow doesn’t skimp on security. Instead, it makes it a key part of the setup process, with all sites having a free SSL certificate that enables encrypted connections, as well as protection against distributed DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks, two-factor authentication, and capability for backup and restore. 

## Webflow Downsides 

- **Limited Plugins.** While the platform does have a nice selection of integrations, plugins are a different story. Compared to WordPress marketplace’s 60,000 plugins, Webflow takes a different approach. It has those essential features built-in. It’s up for debate whether or not this is a pro or a con. While having less plugins helps minimize vulnerabilities, it also limits capabilities. For businesses looking to scale and expand their sites as they grow, Webflow has serious limitations. 

- **Lack of functionality for complex projects.** While Webflow’s simplicity and straightforwardness is its biggest strength, it’s also its most significant downfall. When it comes to intricate databases, advanced filtering systems, or custom logic, it just can’t handle the task. This is also very prevalent for e-commerce sites due to its lack of inventory management capabilities. 

- **Limited SEO.** Before you call us out for having SEO as a pro and a con, there’s a reason for it. While Webflow makes SEO implementation easy for non-SEO experts, it is still very limited  when it comes to advanced features like internal linking and schema. For that, you’ll need some coding skills.

- **Restricted customization.** The pre-built templates are great for ease and simplicity, but they’re a detriment to  unique identity. If you’re looking for a truly personalized site that reflects your brand throughout every design element, WebFlow isn’t it.  And since these templates are stuffed with design elements they also affect site performance and SEO.

- **CMS issues.** With its own CMS built-in, Webflow has its limitations for content or media-heavy sites with multiple authors that are the strengths of true CMSs. Enterprises shouldn’t expect to get very far with it.
